Music Education
Ask around, and you’re sure to learn about a nearby educator with a degree from UIUC. As the state’s flagship university for teacher training, UIUC has been at the forefront of music education for fully a century since establishing Public School Methods here in 1902–03. We’ve trained countless teachers who have gone on to careers that ensure the future of music education across the country. More than 300 university educators and administrators have earned their doctorate from UIUC. Like today’s students, they chose this school for its solid curriculum, resources, and faculty. We house The Council for Research in Music Education (affectionately pronounced CRiME), and we continue to sponsor outstanding conferences and activities in early music learning. Teachers can earn advanced degrees in our unique summers-only program. A rich curriculum takes advantage of the School of Music’s strengths in conductor training and band, orchestra, and vocal music. You can count on individual, up-to-the-minute advice and critiques, along with comprehensive, musical, and pragmatic training leading. We keep growing, and that’s what we expect you to do, too.
