Alumni

“My years at Illinois were ones which were crucial to my early development as a musician, a thinker, a person, and a leader, and formed a solid foundation for my 30-year career in leadership in music and arts education.”

— Jeff Kimpton (B.S.’73; M.S.’75),
President, world-renowned arts education institution,
Interlochen Center for the Arts, in Michigan

The School of Music boasts 7800 alums, many of whom are award-winning music educators, performers, composers, musicologists, and administrators. The internationally-known alumni include Fulbright Scholars, Pulitzer Prize recipients and Grammy Award winners. They are creative—they are innovators; several are entrepreneurs of their own businesses. Others are on the world stages in operas; many hold principal positions in orchestras and in the United States Armed Services bands while others are conductors of outstanding choirs. Many teach young children; others educate teenagers and college students; yet, others teach in private studios.
