Students approved to choose this option may count 2 hours of independent study toward completion of the Area of Professional Focus requirement and .5 unit toward completion of the music requirement.

Master's of Music Education with Certification

This program is intended for those students who wish to complete an MME degree, but who do not hold teacher certification.

In addition to the requirements for the MME (link to that curriculum or repeat it here), students must satisfy all undergraduate degree requirements and undergraduate certification requirements. Ed.D. in Music Education

The Ed.D. in Music Education requires the completion of a minimum of 64 hours. It is flexibly designed to meet individual interests. While areas of study are designated, in most cases the student may choose from a wide variety of courses to meet these area requirements.

Music
No course work is required in this area. Depending on results of the entrance examination and the audition, however, a student may be required to enroll in specific courses at the 400 or 500 level. These courses may be counted toward the degree, as approved by the advisor, in the following areas: music theory, musicology, ethnomusicology, literature studies in the area of emphasis, applied music, and conducting.

Ph.D. in Education with an Emphasis in Music Education

This degree is currently administered through the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education, but a professor in the Music Education division must serve as the academic advisor and dissertation chair. Explanations for each area may be found under the discussion of the Ed.D. program in the Graduate Music Education Handbook.

This degree requires the completion of 80 hours.
