Winds (Graduate)

Bassoon

Prospective students should prepare the following: Mozart Bassoon Concerto in B flat, KV191 - first and second movements, with cadenzas; a 20th century work from the standard solo repertoire, and 2-3 standard orchestral excerpts of your choice. Applicants should also be prepared to perform major and harmonic minor scales (preferably full range), chromatic scale (preferably full range), and sight read.

Clarinet

Prospective M.M. and D.M.A. students should prepare thirty minutes of music, including repertory that demonstrates diversity of styles, time periods, and forms (sonatas, concerti, orchestral excerpts, and studies).

Flute

Applicants for the M.M. degree should prepare a recital program equivalent to a B.M. performance degree recital. Applicants for the D.M.A. degree should prepare a recital program equivalent to a M.M. performance degree recital.

Oboe

All graduate applicants shall prepare three complete works, representing three different musical time periods (one being Baroque and one being 20th Century). There will be a sight-reading requirement at the audition.

Saxophone

M.M. applicants shall prepare 20-30 minutes of solo repertoire in varying styles, including lyrical, technical and contemporary techniques. Applicants with jazz training are encouraged to include a jazz solo for assistantship consideration in the jazz division. D.M.A. applicants shall prepare 30-45 minutes of solo repertoire in varying styles, including lyrical, technical and contemporary techniques. Applicants with jazz training are encouraged to include a jazz solo for possible assistantship consideration in the jazz division.
