Piano Pedagogy
If you’re reading this, you probably had a piano teacher you liked and some lessons that elated and enlightened you. Now it’s your turn to pass along that musical excitement. As a student in piano pedagogy at UIUC you will find your own style to do that as you study and analyze learning problems, interact with different personalities, select and use the best of the latest technology, and discover the breadth of teaching repertoire to use with your future students. Whether your goal is to teach youngsters, adolescents, or adults; whether you want to work in a university, class, or studio venue; whether you want to teach classical repertoire only or span the world of pop and jazz, the faculty and facilities here will help you become the best teacher you can be. Working with Professors Alexander (recognized leader and author in the field), Hickey (Chicago-area jazz pianist), and Tsitsaros (well-known for his educational compositions) on teaching issues, you’ll also get feedback on your practice-teaching—and have full access to the performance piano faculty for private lessons and recitals.
